Description

HustlerI aim to create a portrait of a feeling in my paintings and 'Hustler' has a kitsch, comedic aura. An image taken from pop culture advertising imagery where the woman has a seductive pose as id she is hustling for something she is seeking. The basketball net is a metaphor for the nature of hustling and moving towards reaching a goal. The dark night sky adds a mood that there is something more than meets the eye to her desires.

This is one of a series of layered papercuts that explores architectural forms in much the same way as the artisans of the Crusades

The painting begins with a square stretcher frame that is reconstructed into new forms by adding and subtracting the base material
